12 Month Post Graduate Surgical Training Program for Advanced Practice Professionals in Cardiovascular Thoracic and Transplant Surgery


Physician Assistant Services of Texas / PAST, LLP is an independent contracting / professional association of 14 Advanced Practice Providers providing CVT Surgery, Abdominal Organ Transplant, and other specialty-surgical services for North Texas surgeons and hospitals. PAST, LLP, circa 1996 and incorporated 2003 is well-established and currently working with more than 30 surgeons in local hospitals assisting on 300-500 surgical procedures monthly.

Our services vary at each facility, although the far majority of our work is intra-operative, providing

  • First-assisting on adult cardiovascular and thoracic procedures, including EVH techniques

  • Assisting DaVinci Robotic procedures

  • Congenital Cardiac and Thoracic Surgery First-assisting at selected hospitals (Acuity: low to very high complex procedures)

  • Cardiac and Lung Transplant Surgery

  • Abdominal Organ Transplant Surgery: Kidney, Pancreas and Liver Transplant

  • Specialty Pediatric Surgery


    PAST is beginning the first 12 Month Post Graduate Surgical Training Fellowship January 2025 with the plan to start another new Fellow in six months.


    The Program will consist of

    • 2wks Introduction to Cardiovascular OR
    • 1wk Anesthesiologist and Perfusion
    • 6wks Vascular Surgery
    • 4wks Thoracic Surgery
    • 4wks Robotic Surgery
    • 12wks Adult Cardiac
    • 4wks CVICU
    • 6wks Transplant Surgeries
    • 4wks Pediatric Congenital Cardiothoracic
    • 8wks Rotation of choice
    • Additional Training Classes
      • Wound Closure Techniques-Certificate

      • Getinge Endoscopic Vein Harvest Course with Lab and Certification

      • DaVinci Robotic Course with Certification

      • Cardiovascular Ultrasound

      • Cath Lab observation

    • Research Project and Presentation

Research, Prepare and Present a Cardiovascular Topic Choice

Stipend and Benefits:

  • Stipend: $65,000

  • Vacation- 10 business days and 4 Weekend days (14 days total)

  • Holidays 1 Major Holiday and 2 Standard Holidays

  • Sick leave: up to 5 days

  • Medical Malpractice Insurance Provided

  • Surgical Loupes: Payment Plan Option if needed


    Program Requirements:

    • Self-driven and determined personality

    • ACLS AND BLS Certification

    • Graduate of an accredited PA program

      • Eligible for Texas PA License

      • NCCPA certification

      • Texas TMB license

    • Graduate of Advance Nurse Practitioner Program

      • Eligible for Texas ANP License

      • RNFA Certification
